March Madness Sweet Sixteen Best Bets
Underdogs have covered the spread 23 times in the first two rounds of the tournament. Favorites, on the other hand, have covered the spread 23 times! It’s harder to find value in the lines now that there are fewer games. That being said:
Oral Roberts vs. ARKANSAS (-11.0)*, Saturday, 7:25pm EDT, TBS
Oral Roberts had no business defeating Florida in the second round, to be honest. They also profited from Ohio State’s inability to close out an opponent throughout the season in the first round. Although point guard Max Abmas has been outstanding, Oral Roberts continues to rely too heavily on the three-point shot.
Arkansas, unlike Ohio State and Florida, plays fast, ranking 17th in KenPom’s Adjusted Tempo rankings. Arkansas’ talent advantage has more opportunities to take control by increasing the number of possessions through tempo. ORU is still unable to play defense, relying on its opponents to create errors.
Jalen Tate, a graduate transfer from Arkansas, has plenty of big-game experience. Once Oral Roberts’ bullets stop falling, he has the potential to make a difference.
Pour one out for the end of Cinderella’s run and put one down on Arkansas -11.0 (-115).
Florida State vs. MICHIGAN (-2.5), Sunday, 5:00pm EDT, CBS
In Indiana, the Big Ten stank so terrible that they could smell it from their offices outside of Chicago. Michigan, on the other hand, held up against the best LSU had to offer. The ability to take your opponent’s greatest punch and progress is the mark of a competent team. In round two, this pertained to UM.
This game is essentially a pick’em for Fivethirtyeight. Isaiah Livers, the Wolverines’ top shooter, is also not expected to return. So, what makes Michigan so special?
Despite the Seminoles’ height being comparable to Michigan’s, Hunter Dickinson and Franz Wagner are the difference-makers. As he acquires more tournament experience, Dickinson, a freshman, has room to improve. Expect him to expand on his double-double from the second round.
Take Michigan -2.5 (-105) for a unit.
USC (-2.0) vs. Oregon, Sunday, 9:45pm EDT, TBS
For this PAC-12 showdown, there is no need to develop narratives. The Ducks “stole the PAC-12 championship” from the Trojans, according to USC big man Isaiah Mobley, who sparked the fireworks. Isaiah Mobley, the older of the USC Mobley brothers, was unable to participate in the team’s 72-58 victory over Oregon in February. He’s back for a rematch on a much bigger platform now.
The Ducks have been playing fantastic basketball since that loss. It was stunning how quickly they dismantled Iowa. USC, on the other hand, is the superior team and looked frighteningly excellent against Kansas.
USC’s superior size will win out now that it has climbed to sixth place in KenPom’s Adjusted Efficiency Margin (AdjEM).
Ride USC -2.0 (-105) and get some rest before the Elite Eight tips-off Monday night.
Sweet Sixteen Upset Special
Just because I like three favorites to cover doesn’t imply the Sweet Sixteen will be ruled by chalk.
VILLANOVA (+265) vs. Baylor, Saturday, 5:15pm EDT, CBS
It’s all about the money with this one. Nova is a 7.5-point underdog in this matchup. Three teams are labeled as 6.5-point underdogs in the Sweet Sixteen, but those money lines aren’t particularly compelling. Oregon State has a +230 rating, whereas Syracuse and UCLA have a +220 rating. And I think Nova has a better chance of pulling off the upset than any of the other three teams.
First and foremost, Nova has a championship-winning coach in Jay Wright. He appears to be speaking for the Wildcats at the appropriate time. Of course, Baylor is a considerable step up from their previous opponents in terms of competition.
Villanova has a potent offense that can catch fire late in games and put the Bears in jeopardy. There’s a chance to take advantage of Baylor’s relatively weak defense, which ranks 6th in KenPom’s Adjusted Offensive Efficiency.
Baylor was the second-worst defensive underperformer among the top seeds entering the tournament, according to FiveThirtyEight’s analysis. Ohio State, West Virginia, Iowa, and Texas were among the other teams near the top. All of the groups have already left.
Look for pressure and a coaching advantage to drive the Wildcats over the final line if they get hot.
March Madness Sweet Sixteen Futures and Prop Bets
Congratulations if you have a live Loyola Chicago winner ticket at +8000. The Ramblers’ odds have reduced to +1500, making them the sixth-best Sweet Sixteen team.
Gonzaga still has a lot of talent, so it’ll be difficult for anyone to beat them. Look for teams that can escape the Zags until the Championship game for a good Futures bet.
Arkansas Winner +2000
The Razorbacks are one squad that has a chance to make a run. They would get the winner of Baylor-Villanova as well as the winner of their Sweet Sixteen meeting against Oral Roberts. I just explained why Baylor should be concerned about that game.
Arkansas’ most likely opponents in the Final Four would be Houston or Loyola. There is a clear path for them to reach the championship game. They have more potential than similarly positioned squads at +2000.
Exact Finals Result – Michigan to Beat Villanova +12500
Finally, how about putting a long shot on the table? Michigan would wait until the Final Four to face Gonzaga, and they have a team capable of cutting down the nets. Meanwhile, a Nova run is not unheard of, and if they can defeat Baylor in the Sweet Sixteen, their route is wide open.
This isn’t to say it won’t happen. However, at a payout of 125 to 1, it might be worth reinvesting a portion of your first-round profits. You can visit situs slot online for more games. / Dy
